ニューヨーク出身 (生まれ・育ち) の日系三世アメリカ人。
幼少期よりブラックミュージックを聴いて育つ。
15歳で大学入学後、音楽の道を志し音楽大学に編入。
卒業後、80年代から90年代にかけてNYのレコーディングスタジオにて、テディ・ライリーやキース・スウェットといったR&Bアーティストと仕事を行う傍ら、自身の音楽活動もスタートさせる。
1992年、オムニバスアルバム『Tracks ’92』(Strictly Rhythm) に自身のユニット ”One For The Treble” として参加。同年オムニバスアルバム『Strong Enough』(Select Records) にも同じく自身のユニット ”Dai Bass” として参加。
1996年、セルフ・プロデュースのユニット “Bluesette (ブルーゼット)” としてBMGファンハウスからメジャーデビュー。シングル「Only You」「Make You Mine」、アルバム「Bluesette」をリリース。
1998年、日本での音楽活動をスタートさせるためにNYから東京に移住。
作曲家、アレンジャーをはじめ、サウンドエンジニアとしても様々なレコーディングに参加するなど、音楽制作全般に関わるマルチなクリエイターとして活動中。
作曲家としては、Chemistry、倉木麻衣、ゴスペラーズ、Lead、 WEST. (ジャニーズ WEST) などに楽曲を提供。
また、英語詞 (英語による作詞) や、J-POPの英語訳詞も多数手がける。
Seiji Motoyama is a music producer/songwriter with a long history of work in New York and Japan. Born and raised in New York, in New York he produced songs for Select Records and Strictly Rhythm Records and worked as an engineer for various artists including Guy (Teddy Riley), Cyndi Lauper, The Cardigans and Keith Sweat. In Japan he has written and produced for many Jpop artists including Chemistry, Kuraki Mai, The Gospellers, Lead, and WEST. (Johnny’s West). He has worked with artists from Korea, Taiwan, China and Malaysia as well. He has also written English lyrics for many different projects including Eric Martin (from Mr. Big), Nick Carter (from The Backstreet Boys), and “Cry No More”, the ending theme from the internationally distributed Japanese movie “Shizumanu Taiyo (The Unbroken)”.
