At a time when the entire world is worried about coffee prices, certain coffee shops in the US have started the worrisome trend of serving coffee in a “bucket” size, which is approximately 34 ounces. Coffee bean prices have nearly tripled since 2019, and I’m really worried that in the near future I won’t be able to enjoy my morning and evening coffee.
The coffee buckets have been trending on SNS, and therein lies part of the reason for its popularity. Hopefully this is just a passing fad, and will fade out quickly, before it makes its way to Japan. A lot of the people drinking these buckets are ordering coffee which has been sweetened with sugar, so the coffee bucket problem could also become a health problem.
Additionally, the US has recently applied a 50% tariff on coffee exports from Brazil to the US. This will probably have a big impact on world coffee markets, although it may be a positive development for Japanese consumers of coffee.
