People living in Japan will probably find it hard to believe, but due to space limitations, there are a lot of apartments in Manhattan that have a bathtub in the kitchen. Originally, I viewed that fact as just another quirk of the dystopia that is New York, but now I realize there are some real advantages to that strange room configuration.
Several times in the past, I have started a roast in the oven and jumped into the bath, only to discover an overcooked roast after I finished my bath. With a bathtub in the kitchen, it’s a simple matter to keep an eye on your roast while you bathe, and turn off the oven when it’s reached the perfect shade of brown. Ditto for more exacting dishes like caramel or pizza. Soufflé, anyone? A bathtub full of hot water is also the perfect vessel for recipes that require a double boiler. Perfect!
